about

From the Kensington Sessions:

This was an interesting period. I wrote music for a play called Howl by Allen Ginzburg. Allen came to the opening and Keith McKie and myself ended up backing him up in a concert. It was an inspired time hanging with Ginzburg who told me 'first thought best thought'.
This song was probably inspired by all the beatnik jam sessions with Allen.

I had an studio engineer friend Tom Rogers who had some late night down time at Kensington Studios. I went to a few bars, the Peter Pan and the Black Bull and maybe a few others and told my friends to come to the studio because I needed a chorus. Of course they were all drunk it was 2 am when they all arrived after the bars had closed.

From what I remember Dave Norris on drums, Debbie (a violin player I always used to see in after-hours clubs), mandolin, soprano sax, guitars,Peter Dako organ, Shane Adams upright bass and a few girls from the bar.

Tom freaked out at me. He said there is no way to record all these people properly. I said its ok, it doesn't have to be done right, I just wanted the energy of all those people there. It was pretty cool in the end.

LYRICS

Some people say they dont believe a time will ever come
When soldiers put down all their guns and go home
But I believe that someday soon the tyrants all must fall
Their curtain and their wall come a tumblin down
No more need to hurt or bleed or suffer anymore
Nobobody wants a war - everybody want to be free
Everybody sing - La la la la
Oh Ya Everybody sing this song

Well one day al the prisoners tortured and condemned
Will walk out of their cells and go back home again
The cheated on betrayed upon and all the falsely tried
No more of them will die - justice shall be done
No more slaves no more kings no more battlefields
All the swords shall yield- justice shall be done
Everybody sing - La la la la
Everybody sing this song

No Buchenwald no Babi Yar no Hiroshima death
No man made to confess to crimes he never done
No terror tanks, blood money banks no cry of bitter tears
No more nazi fears no children forced to hide
The cannons fails the sirens wail be silenced by the sun
Alll misery be done a new world shall arise
Everybody sing - La la la la
Everybody sing this song
